The McElroy applied tube finning machine is a miniature high speed rolling mill synchronized with the rotation and advance of the tube. Quick change, steady rest input and output racks, allow a 1" tube to rotate at up to 3000 RPM. Strip is fed to the machine from a payoff table beneath the Bare Tube Rack or from a free standing oscillating coil payoff system. The strip is guided through the forming rollers which shape the fin so as to uniformly expand the outer edge, resulting in a helical shape that curls around the tube. This rolling process locates more fin material near the base of the fin and tube for increased efficiency.
The No.5 Applied finned tube machine is capable of producing five basic types of fins on incremental tube sizes from 9/16" (14.29mm) to 2" (50.8mm) at fin heights from 1/4" (6.35mm) to 1" (25.4mm) at 4 to 13 fins per inch. In addition, the No.5 Applied finned tube machine has the capability of applying 5/8" carbon steel imbedded fins on 1" and larger tube sizes, as well as 3/8" high stainless steel imbedded fin. Each machine is configured for the specific production requirements of the end user.
Why
No.5
From the way our machine maximizes raw materials usage to the quick change racks and complete tube handling system, McElroy is synonymous with efficiency. Using fewer man hours to produce more tubes, the No. 5 machine allows you to work smarter, instead of longer.
Our machines typically run around 2,400 rpm yielding high productivity rates. Maximum rpm 3,000 on 1" tube. (See Productivity Chart - Link to page16 of the Fintube Catalog)
Our digital drive system increases the repeatable accuracy of the finning process generating a higher quality product, more consistent results, and reduced setup time. Digital controls also allow for a wider range of FPI capabilities. Operation parameters can be saved as unique part numbers for easy access.

Dual digital drive motors eliminate speed variators and variable pulley and belt systems. Fewer gearboxes and shafts means less maintenance. Additionally, these motors fit neatly inside the power base, requiring a smaller footprint.
Fewer gear drive components and elimination of jack shafts make machine quieter and mechanically simpler.
The management reporting allows production supervisors to have access to a detailed look at production numbers and efficiency. This will assist on making the right decisions to make the most of their capabilities.

Options
The No.5 machine is offered in two basic configurations:
In the Standard No. 5 configuration, the quick-change finned tube rack will discharge the finned tubes into a dwell rack which allows the storage of approximately 15 finned tubes and requires the manual offloading of the finned tubes.
In the No.5 Saw Ready configuration, the same quick-change finned tube rack will discharge the finned tubes into a dwell rack which allows the storage of 8 finned tubes and then automatically discharges the finished tubes. This assembly makes it possible to design your own manufacturing cell complementing it with other McElroy Productivity Tools, such as the Saw Support Table, Tube Cut-Off Saw and Support Rack, Basketfiller or the Power Fed Tube Saw System. See “Productivity Tools" for more information.
NOTE: For either configuration, the typical rack length is 40 Feet long (Approx. 12 Meters), other lengths are also available to accommodate customer's needs. CONTACT US for more information.
